Headlines

By now you should be familiar enough with the standard beginning and end of a basic web page that for our demonstrations we can eliminate them, and use our HTMLArea script and make this tutorial a little more interactive. The only thing we are eliminating are the <html><head><title></title></head><body> and the </body></html> tags. Obviously if you are using NoteTab to practice with these bits of code, you will need to use the page beginning and ending codes. If you are using NoteTab be sure to name your files with a .htm, .shtml or .shtml file extension or they won't display in your browser.

The headlines tag controls the size of the type. They are very useful and you should use them for your headings. Here is a page with a <h1> tag. (Click the V to see the source code).

Here we have three lines set to different alignments. First to the left, then the center and finally to the right. These lines are a little smaller. This is the <h3> tag.

Let's move on and take a complete look at the <h> tag.

Headings come in 6 sizes using the <h> tag. Here is the code for the six different sizes.

It's time for quiz four.
